About Vertical Motion

We've sat in the seats
we coach.

Vertical Motion is a team of former CEOs, military officers, operators, and coaches who've lived the leadership challenges that break companies at scale. We don't teach theory. We work from experience.

Our mission

Upgrade the team. Unlock the next stage.

Vertical Motion was founded to mentor aspiring and emerging executives on how to build their own executive style, executive presence, and executive network.

The ELT Scaling Suite is the product of what we've learned working inside fast-scaling companies, coaching CEOs through transitions, and watching leadership teams succeed and fail in real time.

We believe the most important work a CEO can do at scale is upgrade the team around them. To build great things, you have to build teams who can build great things before you add headcount, raise capital or launch a new product.

Mizuki

Mizuki Lee

Vertical Motion Certified Coach

Mizuki is a healthcare executive and managed care strategist who has built her career in high-pressure boardrooms and courtrooms, negotiating complex agreements with the nation's largest health insurers while showing up with equal force in the community.

Shaped by Oriental practices, from calligraphy to the art of knowing yourself clearly enough to lead, Mizuki brings a perspective on leadership grounded in presence and self-command.

She knows what it means to start anew. She walked away from a situation many don't leave, with nothing but her car and the refusal to compromise herself further. She once spent an entire day climbing a frozen mountain in January: no equipment, no guide, sliding back with every step forward, and made it to the top anyway. That's not a metaphor. That's her history. And it's what she brings into every session.

A 2025 Pacific Business News 40 Under 40 honoree, Mizuki serves in Family Court as a Guardian ad Litem. Her approach: self-awareness is an underutilized multiplier. She coaches leaders who are ready to understand what's beneath to 10x their output.

Matt Ezyk

Matt Ezyk

Vertical Motion Certified Coach

Matt is a digital commerce executive who has spent his career at the intersection of technology and revenue, leading platform transformation, ecommerce strategy, and AI-driven customer experience for premium retail and DTC brands. He currently leads commerce engineering at Hanna Andersson, and previously led digital at Pet Supermarket, owning both the commercial and engineering sides of the business. Earlier in his career he held leadership roles at RafterOne, Accenture, and Merkle, shaping commerce experiences for brands including Skechers, L.L.Bean, Uniqlo, Disney, and Tapestry.

Matt describes himself as a marketer trapped in a technologist's body, equally fluent setting commercial strategy and directing the engineering that delivers it. That dual fluency is the core of how he coaches: helping technically strong leaders translate what they build into the language of revenue, boards, and executive influence.

As a coach, Matt works with emerging and aspiring executives navigating the move from running a function to owning an outcome. His focus is executive presence, narrative, and network: helping leaders position themselves as owners of outcomes rather than responders to problems, build the personal brand and ecosystem relationships that open doors, and communicate with clarity at the level where careers are made.

Chris Martin

Chris Martin

Vertical Motion Certified Coach

Chris came to leadership through an unlikely door. He graduated with a fine arts degree; an unexpected opportunity landed him in wealth management, and he never looked back. The fine arts background gave him a different lens than most of his peers, a habit of noticing what others walked past. That perspective never left him. Neither did a core belief: that people are almost always more capable than they know.

Over the next 20 years, Chris worked inside organizations at nearly every scale, from a mid-size wealth management firm to a Fortune 500 brokerage to a high-growth fintech. What he kept seeing, regardless of size, was the same pattern: organizations drift as a natural consequence of growth. The same conversations resurface in slightly different form. Nothing is obviously broken, but progress slows anyway.

That outside perspective is what Chris brings today. He works with founders and emerging leaders who are ready for an honest outside read, someone who can see the system clearly, name what's actually happening, and help them reframe their situation so they can move forward with confidence. Chris holds an MBA from the University of Denver and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. He is based in North Vancouver, BC.

These experiences deeply shaped his perspective on discipline, resilience, and sustained performance. As an executive coach, Brett emphasizes self-discovery and intrinsic motivation, helping leaders slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what drives their decisions.
